Pre-Departure

With the trip a mere sixty days away (EEP), I've been taking care of some pre-departure necessities.  And, by taking care of, I mean thinking about.  And, by thinking about, I mean briefly pondering in a nebulous way before or after I go do something else I'd rather be doing...namely napping.

I have visited the doctor and gotten the all-clear from him...but then I left the piece of paper he was supposed to sign in the car.  WHOOPSIE!  So, now I have to go back for that.  And for some blood work because how on earth was I supposed to know that I should have fasted?!

The thing that I have taken the most seriously, thus far, is what cell phone companies exist in South Korea and how much it will cost to keep me part of the Matrix.

I have also come up with avoidance measures for whenever my mother asks me if I've been studying Korean.

So for those keeping score:

Tasks completed:
  1. Extensive research cell phone plans and wireless internet options.
  2. Copious study of shopping and cuisine in South Korea.  Minimal skimming to locate Krispy Kreme's in region.
  3. Minimal research on host and club gifts.
  4. Half a doctor's visit.
  5. Tell my mother to remind me to study Korean, avoid her eyes while I mutter incoherently as she holds up her end of the bargain.
  6. Contact local clubs to schedule presentations upon my return.
To do:
  1.  Purchase travel insurance .
  2. Complete other half of the doctor's visit.
  3.  Get required shots.
  4. Practice Korean.
  5. Research and purchase a high-end camera.
  6. Download 50 million e-books for flight.
Okay, so as you can tell, I've got some work to do.  The good news is, I have six things in each category.  That makes my Libra scales happy.  Even better, I can knock most of my to-do list off by the end of the week.  Well, except the Korean part.  That's gonna take a while.  I'll probably be working on that during my 14+ hour flight.

The Beginning

*Announcer's voice* Hello and welcome to "Eb In South Korea dot Blogspot dot Com" I'm Eb and I'll be your protagonist during this wacky journey.

I started this blog to serve as a mini-journal for myself and a way for friends and family to keep up with my sojourn to South Korea.  Hopefully, it'll also keep me honest.  I imagine it will be a little difficult to shirk all my pre-departure duties and foreign language training if I know there's a blog in the cloud somewhere peeping over my shoulder...

Until my trip begins, join me here for snark, confusion and mayhem.  You know, typical Eb stuff. :)
